چکیده

The effects of dual Zr & N plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) on the corrosion behavior of WE43Mg alloy are evaluated in simulated body fluid (SBF) and cell culture medium (cDMEM). Zr & N PIII improves the corrosion resistance of WE43 which exhibits smaller icorr, larger R1 & R2, smaller CPE2, and larger phase angle maxima in SBF and cDMEM. The Zr & N PIII WE43 samples exhibit 12-folds decrease in icorr in SBF and 71-folds decrease in icorr with near capacitive EIS in cDMEM. Analysis of the corrosion products reveals calcium phosphate. 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Effect of coating time on the corrosion behavior of ceramic coatings containing hydroxyapatite nanoparticles by plasma electrolytic oxidation method on AZ31 Mg alloy in simulated body fluid

In this study, the effect of coating time on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy coated by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method has been investigated. For this purpose, phosphate-based electrolyte containing hydroxyapatite nanoparticles was used at different times of 5, 10 and 15 minutes. The surface properties and chemical composition of the coatings were investiga...

Effect of TiO2 nano-particles on corrosion behavior of Co-Cr alloy coatings in simulated body fluid

Co-Cr and Co-Cr/nano-TiO2 coatings were electrodeposited from Cr(III) based baths. The effect of TiO2 nano-particles incorporation on the morphology, structure, crystallite size, and preferred orientation was studied. Corrosion behavior of the composite coating was also investigated by means of polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques in Hanks’ si...

Bio-Corrosion of Magnesium Alloys for Orthopaedic Applications

Three Mg alloys, Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn (MCZ), Mg-1.34% Ca-3% Zn-0.2% Sr (MCZS), and Mg-2% Sr (MS), were examined to understand their bio-corrosion behavior. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization scans were performed after 6 days of immersion in cell culture medium, and ion release and changes in media pH were tracked over a 28 day time period. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of...

Mechanical properties, bioactivity and corrosion resistance of oxygen and sodium plasma treated nickel titanium shape memory alloy

Nickel titanium (NiTi) shape memory alloy is a unique material displaying the shape memory effect and superelastic property making it attractive to the orthopedic field. However, with its high nickel content of∼50%, there is concern on health and safety when this material is implanted inside the human body for a prolonged period of time as toxic nickel ions may leach into the body due to corros...
